Overview
Talland Bay, located in South East Cornwall, is home to two shingle beaches. During low tide, they reveal a generous stretch of sand. The larger of the two is named Talland Sands, while the smaller one is called Rotterdam Beach.

This bay is sheltered, making it perfect for kayaking and learning to paddleboard. Additionally, it offers rock pools that are just waiting to be explored. Thanks to its secluded location, which is reached via winding Cornish lanes, it remains relatively uncrowded. However, it can get busy during the peak season. If you’re planning a visit, it’s a good idea to get there early before the car park fills up!

Getting There
Talland Bay is 3 miles from Looe and 22 miles from Plymouth. Following the A38 from Plymouth over the Tamar Bridge into South East Cornwall, make your way to the A374, A387, and finally the B3253, leading to Looe. From Looe, the A387 will guide you to a left turn signposted for Talland, from which you’ll find your way down a narrow, steep road to Talland Bay.

Swimming at Talland Bay
Talland Bay is a popular spot for swimming and snorkelling on calm days. However, caution is advised, especially during outgoing tides.
Surfing at Talland Bay
This isn’t one of Cornwall’s top beaches for surfing, so leave the surf boards at home or head over to Witsand Bay or Pentewen Beach for the nearest surf-friendly waves.

Paddleboarding & Kayaking
With easy access from the car park and plently of hidden coves and sea caves to explore this is one of Cornwall’s top spots for kayaking and paddleboarding. Sit on top kayaks can be hired from the beach cafe.
Food and Drink
The Talland Bay Beach Cafe situated at the car park entrance serves ice creams, snacks and light meals and the Smuggler’s Rest is a licenced cafe offering all day dining and with an evening events set in a lush garden above the smaller beach.

Yes, the sheltered location, nearby amenities and easy access from the beach makes it a. good family option, not to mention the rockpools at low tide to keep the kids entertained!

Yes, Dogs are allowed on the beach throughout the year but must be on leads from Easter Day to 1st October.

For a great day out park at Looe and follow the coast path to Polperro, stopping for refreshments at Talland Bay on the way. Come back on the boat from Polperro Harbour (Adult tickets – £12 one-way)
