What is the Newquay Sea Pool?
Constructed around the 1920s, this children’s bathing pool was similar to other tidal pools around the Cornish coast of this era, providing a safe environment for local children and holidaymakers to swim and play away from the Atlantic waves.

Sadly, the pool has been neglected and suffered storm damage over the years, some even say the walls were intentionally smashed by an overzealous local Council. It no longer holds water when the tide falls.

Like at Bude Sea Pool and Whitehouse Children’s Pool, the local community here has recently rallied to raise funds to repair this tidal pool, a C.I.C, “Friends of Newquay Sea Pool” has been set up and we hope this pool will be restored to its former glory.
History of the Newquay Sea Pool

Where is the Newquay Sea Pool?
The pool at Newquay can be found right in the middle of Towan Beach in the town centre. Head to the beach and you’ll see Jago’s Island (the one with the posh house on top), the pool is at the southern side of this.

Can you swim at the Song of the Sea Cave?
The pool no longer holds water after the tide drops but if you get there before the tide falls too much you could still swim or paddle here. Just time the tides right.
Is Towan Beach dog friendly?
Yes, dogs are allowed at Towan beach all year round.

Is Newquay Sea Pool good for small children?
It’s easy to access for kids but sadly no longer holds water when the tide drops, although kids will love this beach anyway, and hopefully, the pool will be repaired in the next few years.
